In a trend that seems to be catching on in recent years, three cruise ships have docked at the same Caribbean port for the first time in over 20 months.

Basseterre, the capital of St. Kitts and Nevis, received three separate cruise ships in one day for the first time in over twenty months. More than 5,000 people boarded the ships, which included ships from Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean, and AIDA, a German cruise line.
The federation has welcomed twenty-one cruise ships since July, indicating a significant rise in cruise ship traffic and a welcome boost to the island’s economy.
Three Cruise Ships Arrive in St. Kitts on a Single Day
The resumption of cruises in the island federation of St. Kitts and Nevis has been somewhat sluggish. However, visits by Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Equinox, Royal Caribbean’s Explorer of the Seas, and AIDA Cruises’ AIDAperla made for a busy day for Port Zante in Basseterre and those in the tourist industry.

The islands have received 21 cruise ships from various companies since July, with the first being the Seabourn Odyssey on July 22, according to the St. Kitts and Nevis information center:
During a Plaque Exchange Ceremony on November 16, Acting Prime Minister Richards remarked, “Our is an important milestone for the whole country because it symbolizes continuous faith that our cruise line partners have in this beautiful Federation.” “We have had 21 cruise ship visits from different cruise line partners, including our three calls today, since July 22 when we welcomed back Seabourn Odyssey. We are continuing to go in the correct path.”
The AIDAperla carried 1,675 people, the Celebrity Equinox 1,835, and the Explorer of the Seas 1,794, bringing the total number of passengers on board to 5,304 in one day.
In the next months, cruise ship traffic is expected to rebound.
Cruise ship traffic in the Caribbean will witness a significant boost in the coming weeks and months as more ships come to the Caribbean. In November, St. Kitts anticipates 28 cruise ship visits, bringing more than 70,000 tourists to Basseterre. This number will rise again in December, with fifty-one calls expected to bring in approximately 120,000 people.
Cruise ships play an important part in the island’s economy; cruise ship passengers spent a total of 133 million dollars in 2018. St. Kitts had the seventh-highest number of passenger and crew trips in the Caribbean region in the same year, with 1.1 million persons disembarking from cruise ships. In addition, with an average total cost of $131 each passenger and staff visit, St. Kitts ranked seventh.

The increase in traffic is not limited to St. Kitts; in one day, five cruise ships visited San Juan, Puerto Rico. On November 17, the ships Harmony of the Seas, Celebrity Reflection, Nieuw Amsterdam, Grandeur of the Seas, and Silver Whisper all paid a visit to the island.
