WHY IT RATES: After a transatlantic journey, the ultra-luxury Seabourn Ovation has just arrived in the United States. She’ll start by sailing 11-day Caribbean trips from her new home in Miami in November and December 2021, then continue south to visit Central America and the Panama Canal until March 2022. — Associate Writer Laurie Baratti

Seabourn Ovation made her first appearance in the United States today, arriving at PortMiami after crossing the Atlantic Ocean. From November 2021 to March 2022, the 600-guest ultra-luxury ship will call Miami homeport for a series of trips exploring the Caribbean, the Panama Canal, and locations in Mexico and Central America.

“For every Seabourn ship, a first-time arrival is always unique, and Seabourn Ovation’s first visit to the United States and Miami will be a terrific start to an exciting season for our newest ship among the tropical splendor of the Caribbean and Central America,” said Seabourn president Josh Leibowitz. “As winter sets in over those portions of the globe, Miami provides an easily accessible port for North American and European visitors, making it a suitable retreat.”

What’s Hot Right Now

In November and December 2021, Seabourn Ovation will launch its Caribbean series with three 11-day ‘Gems of the Leeward Islands’ round-trip trips from Miami. San Juan, Puerto Rico; Dominica’s secret bays; St. Johns, Antigua and Barbuda; Saint Kitts and Nevis; and the Great Harbour of Jost Van Dyke, the smallest of the three British Virgin Islands, which still appears as it did a century or more ago, will all be visited on the journeys. November 18, November 29, and December 10, 2021 are the scheduled departure dates.

The line’s famous ‘Caviar in the Surf’ program, which involves uniformed staff members diving into the warm, clear seas and resurfacing with chilled Champagne and caviar served through a surfboard bar, is one of several immersive experiences for Seabourn Ovation’s passengers to anticipate in the Caribbean. There will also be a guest-favorite Marina Day, with free watersports available for passengers to enjoy from the beach or the ship’s distinctive, retractable Marina platform.

Central America and the Panama Canal Following its Caribbean excursions, Seabourn Ovation will spend December 2021 to March 2022 exploring the Panama Canal and Central America. The first is set to leave Miami on December 21, 2021 for a 21-day Holiday Panama Canal cruise, with stops in Aruba and Curacao along the way to the Panama Canal, before continuing on to Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Mexico before landing in Los Angeles on January 11, 2022. The 19-day return trip, which leaves the same day, will stop in Colombia and Jamaica before returning in Miami on January 30, 2022.

Starting on January 30, 2022, Seabourn Ovation will sail to Central America on four round-trip journeys from Miami. Guests will have several opportunity to see spectacular tropical places and historic and cultural wonders, such as the ruins of ancient Mayan civilizations in Mexico, Costa Rica, Belize, and Panama. All of these journeys will involve a portion of the Panama Canal passage.

Seabourn Ovation will leave Miami for the last time on March 27, 2022, destined for Europe on a 13-day Atlantic Spring passage, arriving in Lisbon, Portugal on April 9, 2022, after completing its Central American series. During a 14-day cruise to Monte Carlo and the start of its spring and summer season in Europe, the ship will return to the Canary Islands and visit Morocco and Tangier.

Seabourn Ovation, like the rest of the Seabourn fleet, retains the line’s high ratio of space per passenger, allowing for highly individualized service from close to one staff member per guest on board. Seabourn Ovation incorporates contemporary design elements and advances in line with Seabourn’s reputation for subtle elegance, and was designed by hospitality design icon Adam D. Tihany.
