Infinite United ClubSM Card
The United Airlines MileagePlus premium credit card has a $525 annual fee and a current offer of 75,000 bonus miles after spending $3,000 in the first three months following account creation.
The Club Infinite Card’s Fundamentals
The United ClubSM Infinite Card earns four miles for every dollar spent on United purchases, two miles for all other travel and dining expenditures, and one mile for all other transactions.
When you pay with your Club Card onboard a United-operated aircraft, you may get a $100 Global Entry or TSA Precheck® fee credit, as well as 25% back as a statement credit on purchases of food, drinks, and Wi-Fi. The first and second checked baggage are complimentary.
Benefits of the New United Club Infinite Card
The United ClubSM Infinite Card now has five additional advantages (HT: Chris Dong)
- Coach saving rewards are eligible for a 10% discount.
- Signing up for clear before June 30, 2022 will get you 10,000 extra miles (which may be used with the current $70 joining reward).
- Starting in 2022, IHG Rewards Club Platinum status will be available.
- Companions of elite-status cardholders who travel on a United award ticket are eligible for upgrades.
- Starting in 2022, there will be more opportunities to gain elite qualification points through spending. Earn 500 Premier Qualifying Points for every $12,000 you spend, up to a maximum of 4,000 per calendar year. (This is an increase from the previous limit of 3,000 qualifying points in 2021.)
Depending on how you spend United miles, the 10% reduction on coach saving awards will be useful. This is only available for coach awards and must be booked at the saver level. Limiting this to saving inventory is strange, but it does restrict the discount. In a world where United doesn’t have reward charts, it’s unclear how a member will know whether they’re qualified for the discount (which prices automatically when logged in).
The CLEAR membership benefit is excellent, since I find the security bypass to be invaluable in my trips.
It’s a little strange that Chase is offering IHG hotels elite status, which is the same status as the IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card, but Chase pays IHG for the status on that co-brand, so it was probably a simple transaction. Nonetheless, given United’s long-standing Marriott affiliation, it’s an unusual decision.
Then then, with its premium Continental Airlines credit card, Chase used to give you Hyatt membership as a bonus.
The companion upgrade will be a niche use case, but it will be useful for those who utilize it. Even with this adjustment that allows you to max out after $96,000 spent on the card, the opportunity to spend more towards status in the United program remains surprisingly restricted.
However, United elites seeking status will find this card useful, and those who would pay for a club membership would be better off doing it through this card’s yearly cost in most instances, in my opinion. The rest of the perks are just icing on the cake.
