Carnival Cruise Line has gradually increased the number of ships it operates, as well as the number of ports it visits. The official name of Mardi Gras will be announced this week at a brief ceremony in Port Canaveral, but the health and safety standards are still causing controversy, with Carnival suspending vaccination exemptions until 2022.

So, with all of the newest Carnival news, let’s take a look at what’s been going on with the cruise company lately.

Three more Carnival ships are getting ready to relaunch in November.

Carnival’s plan to have all of its ships operating is moving along well, with Carnival Freedom beginning service from PortMiami in Florida on October 9 and Carnival Elation becoming the first Fantasy-class ship to resume service on October 11.

Three ships will begin operations from three separate homeports in November, according to the plans. One of them, though, has already set sail.

First and foremost, on November 1, 2021, Carnival Valor will depart from New Orleans. On a 5-day Western Caribbean cruise, Valor will visit Cozumel and Progreso in the Mexican state of Yucatán. The ship will spend the remainder of the year cruising the Western Caribbean on 4-5- and 6-day trips.

Carnival Legend is scheduled to sail from Baltimore on November 14, the same day as Carnival Pride, which will depart from Tampa Bay. Carnival Legend will replace Carnival Pride on the Baltimore schedule. Once she completes her repositioning from Baltimore to Tampa, Pride will cruise the Panama Canal and the Western Caribbean.

This Week is the Mardi Gras Naming Ceremony!

It may come as a surprise to learn that the Mardi Gras naming ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 23. Not only has Mardi Gras been on the water since July 31, but Carnival has kept the naming ceremony under wraps. The event will take place at Port Canaveral and will only be open to invited guests.

Miss Dominican Republic, Kimberly Jiménez, will be the ship’s godmother. “Kimberly is a role model for female empowerment and has a love for so many good organizations, especially those that help women, children, and families,” Carnival President Christine Duffy said earlier this year. It’s an incredible pleasure to present Kimberly with the ‘Spirit of Carnival’ award, and even more exciting to announce that she’ll be the godmother of our newest ship, the Mardi Gras.”

Guests are allowed to enter the terminal beginning at 9:30 a.m. A welcoming ceremony will take place at 10:00 a.m., followed by the inauguration ceremony at noon.

Carnival Makes a Comeback to the Caribbean Islands

It’s been a long 19 months for St. Thomas, but the USVI has finally welcomed back its first Carnival Cruise ship this week. On October 13, Carnival Freedom came in St. Thomas. Freedom is on an eight-day trip from Miami, where she set sail for the first time on October 9. The ship’s second port of call was St. Thomas; additional stops included San Juan and Amber Cove.

“We are thrilled to return to St. Thomas and provide passengers with the chance to enjoy all of the island’s beauty and charm while also giving a much-needed boost to the local economy,” said Carnival Cruise Line president Christine Duffy. “On behalf of Carnival, I’d like to express my gratitude to our partners in St. Thomas for collaborating with us to ensure safe sailing and the return of our passengers to the port.”

Carnival Freedom was not only the first Carnival ship to visit St. Thomas; it was also the first Carnival ship to visit St. Maarten on the same trip. “We are thrilled to return to St. Maarten and provide visitors with the chance to enjoy all of the island’s beauty and charm while also helping to support the local economy,” Christine Duffy said.

Carnival Magic will be the next Carnival cruise ship to visit the US Virgin Islands on October 27. On October 26, Magic will make a stop at St. Maarten.

Vaccine exemptions are no longer available after 2022.

Carnival made headlines earlier this month when it announced that it will no longer accept exemption requests for the year 2022. The reason for this is because the vaccination age has been lowered to 5-years-old and above.

The US Food and Drug Administration has set a meeting on October 26 to examine the data before deciding whether or not to give authorization. Carnival, on the other hand, is sure that the vaccination will be authorized for these ages. As a result, there is no justification for exclusions to be granted:

“At this time, the vaccination exemption procedure for sailings in 2022 is closed. We are hopeful that vaccinations for children aged 5 to 11 years will be authorized and accessible by the end of the year, allowing us to welcome back more of our families with young children! As the situation develops, we will keep visitors informed.”

Only those exemptions that are needed by law, such as medical or religious grounds, are likely to be allowed aboard.
