Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines has issued a warning to guests on its cruises set for St. Martin, advising them to avoid tensions between the French and Dutch sides of the island that have led to an uptick in violence. The company is urging all passengers with reservations scheduled through October 31st 2017 to change their itinerary before they travel or cancel any trips altogether due”
The “celebrity cruises” is a cruise line that was started in the 1980s. Royal Caribbean is one of the most well-known cruise lines, and they have been operating for over 30 years. They are known for their luxury ships and service.
Guests aboard the Oasis of the Seas have been told to avoid visiting the French side of St. Maarten this week. The island has lately experienced a lot of political instability, with roads being blocked and rallies taking place all week. The Oasis of the Seas is now headquartered in Miami, Florida, and operates seven-day voyages from the world’s cruise capital.

The island of St. Martin is suffering from political upheaval, according to a note delivered aboard the Oasis of the Seas, and passengers are recommended to avoid the French section of the island. The ship will dock on the island on November 11 as part of a seven-day voyage that began on November 7 in Miami.
St. Martin, also known as Collectivité de Saint-Martin, is the French side of the dual-country island, whilst Sint Maarten is the Dutch part.
Onboard the Oasis of the Seas, passengers received the following letter:
“As we approach port, our passengers’ health and safety are always our top priorities. We wanted to let you know that political demonstrations are now taking place on the French side of St. Maarten, creating some interruptions and blockages. During the visit scheduled for tomorrow. To guarantee that everyone gets back to the ship securely and on schedule, we highly advise that all passengers remain on the Dutch side of the island. Our Shorex Team will provide extra tour specific data to those who have booked shore excursions to the French side.”

After Hurricane Irma in 2017, protestors on the French side of the island, particularly in the region surrounding the working-class districts of Sandy Ground and Quartier d’Orléans, have set up barricades in the area. Infrastructure reconstruction has gone significantly slower than projected.
Protesters at Sandy Ground sought the reopening of a post office, the construction of sidewalks, the repair of the sewage system, the construction of a fruit and vegetable and fish market, the construction of a waste room, and the installation of broadband Internet.
Tensions lessened on Wednesday, November 10, following a social movement whose leaders were met by the administration and after the resumption of traffic on a key route blocked by demonstrators for eight days.

While passengers aboard the 5,592-passenger Oasis of the Seas would have been entirely safe visiting the French side of the island, obstacles during the demonstrations may have caused substantial delays in their return to the ship.
Caribbean Cruises In Their First Month
The 226,838 gross ton Oasis of the Seas has just been in the Caribbean for a month. On September 6, the former world’s biggest cruise ship relaunched from Cape Liberty Cruise Port in New Jersey. She just completed her repositioning from New Jersey to Miami after a series of Bahamas cruises.

On November 3, the cruise ship set sail from Miami on her first voyage, a four-day voyage to Nassau and Perfect Day At CocoCay. The 7-day cruise, which began on November 7, visited CocoCay, Saint Thomas Island, and now Philipsburg, St Maarten.

The homeport of the Oasis of the Seas will be Miami until the end of April 2022. The ship will sail a variety of voyages, including three- and four-day Perfect Day and Bahamas trips, as well as seven-day Western and Eastern Caribbean cruises. Cozumel, Roatan Island, Costa Maya, and Royal Caribbean’s own island Perfect Day at CocoCay will all be visited on the Western Caribbean cruises.
The “st. maarten island” is a destination that has been hit hard by the aftermath of Hurricane Irma. Royal Caribbean has advised guests to avoid the area, due to tensions in the region.
