Global Survey Shows Meetings and Events Making Comeback

Meetings and events are on the rise worldwide, with nearly 60% of respondents saying they have held a meeting or event in the last 12 months. This is good news for businesses as more people will likely be travelling and thus creating new opportunities to grow their revenue through meetings and events.

The global meeting and event sector is on the rebound, according to new research. The study found that meetings are up 6% in 2018 while events are up 9%.

The “2022 global meetings and events forecast” is a survey that shows the trends of meetings and events. The report says that there will be an increase in meetings and events, as well as a decrease in annual travel expenses.

The meetings and events business is gearing up for a long-awaited revival, and it’s coming sooner than most people imagined.

The findings of American Express Meetings & Events, a component of American Express Global Business Travel (GBT)11th ,’s annual study, the 2022 Global Meetings and Events Forecast, were favorable.


“While we are all eager to see the pent-up demand for meetings and events fully realized,” said Gerardo Tejado, GBT’s Senior Vice President of Value Development and General Manager of Meetings & Events, “we recognize that recovery will not be a straight line, and we cannot get there by simply repeating what we’ve done in the past.” “As we move forward to 2022, we anticipate the sector’s optimism, resourcefulness, and creativity to usher in a new age of intelligent, tech-forward, responsible M&E initiatives.”

Within one to two years, two-thirds (67%) of respondents expect in-person meeting levels will return to pre-pandemic levels.

The number of meetings and activities is expected to increase next year. Eighty-one percent of 2022 events are predicted to have at least one in-person component.

Budgets for events are also growing, with 64% of respondents reporting that they are raising their budgets.

It will not, however, be business as usual. Many meeting and event planners are using the lessons gained from the epidemic to create events that are more valuable, effective, and long-lasting.

With hybrid meeting platforms gaining popularity to reach more audiences, virtual components will not go away. Organizations have discovered the significance of internal meetings since the epidemic, with internal and training meetings expected to rise the most.

Breaking it down by area, meeting planners in North America are confident about a rebound in 2022. On a scale of one to ten, 74% of people rated their optimism as an eight or above.

In-person meetings and events have also returned in North America, with 31% doing so already in June and July of this year. It’s also the most probable location to have events scheduled for 2022.

Meeting experts in Europe were more cautiously hopeful about the recovery. On a scale of one to ten, 59% of respondents expressed an optimism level of eight or above, the lowest of the four areas.

The most hopeful meeting planners are in Central and South America for 2022. On a scale of 1 to 10, 87 percent of people rate their optimism as 8 or above, and 82 percent say their employment prospects are good to great.

Meeting planners in Asia and the Pacific are optimistic about the year 2022. On a scale of one to ten, over two-thirds (64 percent) indicated their optimism level is an eight or above, and 58 percent felt their job prospects are good to outstanding.
