Carnival Corporation celebrates the first day of operation of its new Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal by welcoming two Carnival-owned cruise ships. For the first time since the industry-wide freeze on operations began in 2020, homeport operations from Dubai have resumed.

Carnival Opens a Massive New Cruise Terminal

The new cruise terminal facility, which was built in collaboration between Carnival Corporation and Shamal Holdings, has opened and welcomed its first cruise ships. In 2018, a cooperation was formed to create a new cruise center for the contemporary city.

Two Carnival-owned cruise ships stopped at the new terminal at the same time to formally honor the occasion. Costa Firenze is operated by Costa Cruises of Italy, while AIDAbella is operated by AIDA Cruises of Germany.

In late November 2021, AIDAbella landed in the Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal for the first time, kicking off the vessel’s Winter season. Costa Firenze arrived at the port for the first time on December 16 to begin a season of service from Dubai that would last until March 2022.

“After years of working closely with Shamal Holding, we are incredibly happy to welcome visitors from across the globe to Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal,” said Michael Thamm, global CEO of Costa Group and Carnival Asia.

“As the world’s biggest cruise line, our focus is creating amazing holiday experiences for our passengers, and we are convinced that our cooperation with Shamal Holding will improve that experience.”

“The two terminals are testaments to Dubai’s and the Arabian Gulf’s remarkable appeal as a cruise destination, and we look forward to working with Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal and its community partners to make Dubai Harbour a highly efficient and customer-friendly operation while facilitating new tourism opportunities in the region through cruising.”

It’s the first-ever twin-terminal cruise port in the area, capable of housing two major cruise ships at once. The building is around 120,000 square meters in size (nearly 1.3 million square feet). It has two purpose-built terminal buildings that provide a secure, pleasant, and smooth embarkation and disembarkation experience for passengers and staff.

The facility can accommodate the world’s biggest cruise ships and has four unique boarding bridges to accommodate huge groups of passengers. As Dubai becomes a growing home hub for the cruise industry, the two boats landing at the terminal also signifies the resumption of homeport operations.

Guests and crew members may enjoy a variety of facilities at the twin terminals. There is plenty of seating, as well as restrooms, currency exchange shops, ATMs, cafés, retail outlets, duty-free, dedicated parking, taxi stands, and other amenities. Guests and crew members may even use the complementary Wi-Fi.

By 2023, six Carnival cruise companies will visit Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal, with the six brands projected to make 90 visits to the new twin-terminal cruise port. Costa Cruises, AIDA Cruises, Cunard, P&O Cruises, Princess Cruises, and Seabourn are among the brands.
