Disneyland announced the addition of a never-before seen Disney world called Toontown, which is to debut in 2020. The new land will be based on Walt’s original vision for Mickey Mouse and his friends, but with the same magic that made its predecessor so popular over 30 years ago.
Walt Disney World’s Mickey Mouse has a new identity: Toontown. It is an interactive, digital playground for children and their parents to explore the world of cartoons in real life through special headsets that transform into virtual worlds, including Mickey’s home. This past summer Disneyland introduced its own version of Toontown at Pleasure Island as part of what it calls “Mickey’s Magical Moment Celebration.
The “Mickey’s Toontown at Disneyland is in the Works” is a new project that will be Disney’s reimagining of Mickey’s Toontown, which was originally created for Walt Disney World. The project will take place within the Disneyland Resort.
The Disneyland Resort in Southern California has released some exciting park news, just in time for Mickey and Minnie Mouse’s birthday festivities this week.
In early 2023, an ambitious remake of Disneyland’s Mickey’s Toontown sector will be presented, along with a brand-new attraction called ‘Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway.’ The revelation was announced today at the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) Expo by Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products.

Mickey’s Toontown has long been a popular destination for families with small children, with a variety of entertaining, all-ages activities and loads of whimsical details to discover. Today’s Imagineers will continue that tradition by constructing all-new play activities as well as new landscaping with wide, grassy places where the family may relax. With certain areas that stimulate spontaneous family play and parental relaxation, the overall aesthetic will be one of lively sights, sounds, and experiences.
“We’re ecstatic to be able to tap into Disney’s massive brand, create new tales, and offer even more amazing experiences with our customers,” D’Amaro added. “The freshly remodeled Mickey’s Toontown will be a friendly area where families and younger visitors can interact and play together in engaging new ways,” says the Disney Parks Blog.
Toontown will be transformed into a more expansive and greener environment with more recreational activities and attractions than ever before. Children will be able to slide, spin, splash, touch, and listen to new experiences ranging from active play to tactile play options.
CenTOONial Park, a natural environment centered by two interactive play experiences, is one of the new sections planned for the rebuilt Mickey’s Toontown. It will be the first thing tourists see as they approach the region.
A fountain built for interactive play will be at the heart of CenTOONial Park, and it is meant to become a prominent landmark for Toontown. Guests will be enticed to play in the water and indulge in a sensory experience (particularly on a hot day!) by the water tables that comprise its foundation. The fountain will come to life at night as part of a spectacular show.

A ‘dreaming tree’ will stand nearby, inspired by the tree where a young Walt Disney would fantasize in his hometown. A gently undulating environment will give rolling hills where families may relax and dream, while sculpted tree roots will provide chances for tiny children to play, crawl, and explore.
To accomplish all of this, Disneyland’s Mickey’s Toontown will close in March 2022 so that Imagineers can begin building these all-new experiences. As the renovation develops, the Disneyland park pledges to provide additional information.
Mickey’s Toontown was an area of Disneyland that opened in 1955. It was a place where kids could have fun with cartoon characters and interact with them.
