Royal Caribbean Group is set to build a new cruise terminal in Italy. The company has signed a contract with the Port Authority of Genoa for the construction of the terminal, which will accommodate up to 3,000 passengers and 1,600 vehicles.

The Royal Caribbean Group has announced that a new cruise port would be built in Porto Corsini, Ravenna, Italy.
After a bid process that started in summer 2020, when Royal Caribbean proposed a public-private partnership option to expand the Port of Ravenna, the cruise line was granted the contract.
The Port Authority is dedicated to revitalizing its cruise facilities, which will involve transforming the Porto Corsini waterfront with a new terminal that will blend in with the charming coastal town’s aesthetic.

The project, which is expected to be completed in spring 2024, would position the port as an attractive homeport option for cruise ships, rather than simply a port of call. When the terminal is fully operational, the total number of passengers anticipated to exceed 300,000 per year, with the majority of them arriving by ship.
The port’s position provides easy access to Bologna, Forl, Rimini, and Venice airports.
The new cruise port will include integrated landscaping, including public green spaces, walking and bicycle paths, and entertainment areas for residents and tourists.
The project will be LEED certified, with an emphasis on water and energy efficiency, renewable energy generation, recycling and trash management, and sustainable material sourcing. On the docks, there will also be shore electricity.
The Port Authority has received 30 million euros (about $35 million USD) from Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan to help with these initiatives.

Visitors may explore the rich historical and cultural riches, art and antiques, the excitement of motor racing, unspoilt environment and beaches, worldwide nightlife, and the Italian culinary tradition.”

Royal Caribbean Group has engaged Atelier(s) Alfonso Femia as an architectural design firm and RINA Consulting as engineering consultants to work on the project alongside the cruise line.
The local community was taken into account throughout the design of the new terminal, which will serve as a new iconic landmark for Ravenna as well as a focal point for local meetings and activities.
The two-story terminal, which will contain a crew center, tourist information desk, and areas for local street cuisine, will include unique artwork representing the sea and environment of the region. An elevated walkway will link the building to the ships, and it will be able to handle two ships at once.
The homeport operations will employ 100 to 200 people each day in a range of roles, both directly and indirectly.
The terminal and its promenade will be accessible to the public and for private events such as sports contests, artistic and literary performances, and more on days when no ships are scheduled to arrive. Trade shows and other big events will benefit from the group floor space.
The project’s overall investment value is projected to be 27.7 million euros, with the Port Authority contributing roughly 6 million euros.
